Here's the memo that Insider Inc.'s editor in chief Nicholas Carlson sent to employees announcing the exciting news.

Team —

Our ambition is to be the world's most beloved and influential journalism brand.

At just 12 years old, we're on the right track! 90 million Americans read us every month. That puts us ahead of The Washington Post and the New York Times most months.

And our influence and impact is growing, too.

In just the last week, we published a major investigation into Mark Zuckeberg's family office, another that revealed a $2 million settlement paid out by WeWork, and another revealing an "abusive 'trading floor' culture" at Bloomberg LP.

But we know we can do more and better. Today we're announcing a big step in that direction. We're opening a bureau in Washington, D.C.

I'm excited to announce that we've hired Politico's senior White House reporter Darren Samuelsohn to be our DC Bureau chief.

As POLITICO’s senior White House reporter during the Trump era, Darren anchored coverage of the president’s many run-ins with congressional oversight, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators and most recently on impeachment. He’s covered the last four presidential campaigns, every mid-term election since 2002 and is also known for a dozen years dominating the energy and environment beat for both POLITICO and E&E News/Greenwire.

In the weeks and months to come, we'll open an office in DC and staff it with another half dozen reporters and editors.

Their audience will be engaged, smart readers around the country and the world. Readers who are already following the story of power in DC, but don't know why it's all happening and what it really means. We'll tell them – and we'll do it without fear or favor.

Their output will be a mix of features, investigations, and shorter-but-reported enterprise stories – all of which will focus on the "inside story" you'd expect from a publisher with our name.

Thanks for the hard work that's made this kind of investment possible. Here's to much more!
