Karen Ho joins Insider as senior sustainability reporter
Ho to edit Insider Sustainability, new biweekly newsletter
Karen K. Ho has joined Insider as senior sustainability reporter. She will lead coverage of the fast-growing field of sustainability — particularly how businesses are playing a key role in the development of environmentally-friendly policies. She will also edit Insider Sustainability, the company’s latest newsletter, which is produced in partnership with Deloitte.
Ho was previously global finance and business reporter for Quartz. She has previously covered cultural topics for Time, the Columbia Journalism Review, FiveThirtyEight, and other publications. Ho garnered notice — and many new followers — during the early months of the pandemic for her daily Twitter reminders that encouraged people to stop “doomscrolling” through all the frightening news then being amplified in the news and on social media.
At Insider, Ho will focus her coverage on the business of sustainability and government policy. She will share solutions and practical advice that will make the topic of sustainability more compelling and, importantly, practicable.
"I'm thrilled to cover sustainability because it encompasses so many beats and business topics I have become only more interested in during the pandemic. Governments and major companies around the world are rethinking their supply chains, energy sources, operations management systems and more in response to massive changes from the COVID-19 pandemic — and they’re hungry for guidance on how to implement best practices,” said Ho about her new role.
“There's a lot of great stuff I'm looking forward to reporting on, as well as practical information that will be relevant for Insider's readers and business leaders in a variety of industries. It's both a challenge and a huge opportunity for which I'm incredibly excited," she continued.
Insider Sustainability is presented in partnership with Deloitte, which recently sponsored an Insider virtual event on Earth Day, Act to Impact: Keeping Our Promises to the Planet, featuring renowned climate activists and experts, artists and scholars, and corporate leaders focused on sustainability.
The newsletter focuses on sustainability as a topic of great importance to an increasing number of C-suite executives and other stakeholders who recognize the need for urgent change if we are to course correct effectively when it comes to growing environmental and climate change crises.
Insider's expanded coverage of sustainability and the impact of the ongoing climate crisis will have a global perspective, in response to our audience’s increased interest in these topics.
The launch of Insider Sustainability comes as Insider approaches the three-year anniversary of its Better Capitalism editorial franchise, which launched in 2018 as an extension of Insider CEO Henry Blodget’s call for corporations to prioritize creating value for more than just shareholders but also for employees and the larger community.
